I HANG MY COAT UP IN THE FIRST BAR THERE IS NO PEACE THAT I HAVE FOUND SO FAR THE LAUGHTER PENETRATES MY SILENCE AS DRUNKEN MEN FIND FLAWS IN SCIENCE
it was another rowdy, action packed night at YANK's. charlie usually found these sort of nights to be his favorite because the death eaters were plenty and therefor so was valuable information. but tonight was not exactly such a night. charlie could hardly focus on his legilimens abilities to penetrate the minds of his patrons, because there was just too much chaos going on. despite the fact that his bar had a reputation for housing the roughest and toughest in town, charlie still had to keep them from completely destroying the place. this was, after all, his home. since the bar opened charlie had already had to break up at least three fights. one of those fights had almost become a duel. he simply couldn't have people hexing each other in his bar. he had enough on his plate managing all of the death eater traffic that came through. he just didn't have the ability to keep his eyes on that many things at once.
thus, he was feeling pretty ruthless tonight. usually he was very passive towards his patrons, to whom he owed his daily income, but tonight he had to draw the line somewhere. there was one wizard in particular that charlie had been keeping his eye on all night. he was not a particularly large or burly fellow, in fact, he almost looked rather scrawny and poorly fed. but there was a fire in his eyes that burned something fierce and he seemed to be getting into it with nearly every patron. the man had long waves of black hair and a matching beard that made him look like a scraggly homeless person. and maybe he was, but regardless charlie couldn't afford him to upset the wrong kind of wizard, or worse yet, a death eater. it could result in the man's own death and charlie didn't want to have to get in between this scumbag and the wizard who was out for his blood.
unfortunately, just when charlie thought things were finally settling, the scraggly man began shouting slurs at a group of wizards huddling in the corner. charlie hadn't even seen the group come in, it was impossible to keep track of every single person tonight. he didn't have time to attempt to penetrate their minds. they could have been death eaters, and this crazy mad man was insulting each and every one of them. charlie decided he had to step in before things got ugly. first he approached all of them, apologized to the wizards huddled in the corner and pulled the scraggly man away by the arm.
the man protested but charlie tried to talk him down. listen, pal, you cause any more trouble and you're out on your ass. the man struggled away from charlie's grip. "oh yea?" the scraggly man said. "you bloody 'mericans... think you own e'ery place you walk into..." the man continued, slurring his words over his alcoholic breath. charlie couldn't help scoffing at the man's stupidity, but refrained from saying excuse me, i DO own this place you complete imbecile. but apparently the scoff was enough to upset the guy just as much as a rude comment would have. he took a drunken swing at charlie, which charlie easily deflected. okay, i've had enough of this, charlie mumbled under his breath. he grabbed a firm hold on the scraggly man and dragged him towards the exit of the bar. charlie stepped outside and threw the man face first into the cold cobblestone.
charlie disappeared back into the bar, leaving the mad man out in the streets of knockturn alley. maybe he would find some other drunken fool wandering the streets tonight that he could bother rather than anymore of the people in his bar.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] DANCING SLOWLY IN AN EMPTY ROOM The Words: 631 The Outfit: here The Notes it's blechy, mine is. sorry Olivia Aubrey felt really stupid for the first time in a long time. She mindlessly wandered through the alley ways near Diagon Alley, having used floo powder and ending up in the wrong place. Knockturn Alley, a sign had instructed her of that. She had never been here but surely heard many things before. A lot of people had no idea the trouble that was stowed in these walls, the narrow spaced walkways between two brick walls that led to a row of buildings had at first scared the doe eyed fifth year. This was no place for Hufflepuff, and that was for sure.
How had she gotten here? Oh yeah, forgetting a ton of her potions ingredients then being allowed over the weekend to come to Diagon Alley. It was one of those rare trips, before the professors really started to care about how much you studied or what your handwriting looked like. It was sort of a third year and up ritual for the first full weekend in October. If you needed a new broom supplies kit, you could get one. New books? Flourish and Blotts, right down the street from the Inn most of the students she was friends with stayed currently. You made your own arrangements, which would explain why she had seen a few students wandering into shops down here already.
"Ma'am?" A gruff voice came from the side of the narrow alleyway, Olivia tried to look forward but it sounded so pathetic. So...vulnerable. "Excuse me miss," the voice said again. This time with less of a pathetic sound to it as she looked down. A man, no older than thirty-five stared at Olivia with hungry eyes as she stared back. Tearing her eyes from the scene she scurried forward, her breath ragged and trying to find a sign back to Diagon Alley for somewhere to stay possibly.
Walking down a few more blocks Olivia thought she heard something behind her but she had to keep quiet. Just a few paces in front of her was a bar where rowdy men came to get drunk on a Friday evening, one much like tonight. They left their wives for a possible younger woman, occasionally the man himself with another man, and get drunk easily. Olivia hadn't ever had a beer in her life, she liked pumpkin juice and butterbeer just fine to maintain a healthy diet.
"Hey there honey," the same voice said as she felt someone behind her. She looked forward then was stopped by someone grabbing her wrist, trying to struggle but she couldn't. It was impossible. "Please, stop," she whispered as he flipped her onto the ground and tried to straddle the girl. Kicking one leg up Olivia meekly aimed for his groin, missing and hitting the inside of his leg. It was just enough time to get moving though.
"Bitch! Bitch get over here!" The man yelled as she ran, down then was frozen again. No hands touched her this time as she paused at the brick wall in front of the bar. Blood trickled down her forehead and in her palm from when she had fallen. "Avis!" The man yelled and a flock of small birds came out of his wand, aimed towards Olivia. She screamed as they attacked her hair, swirling around the girl. Tears dripped from her eyes and then they were gone.
"Conjunctivitis," She countered, aiming her wand at the man who yelled in frustration. Olivia tumbled to the ground as a charm sent her flying backwards and she landed harshly onto the ground, crying again for the third time today. "Please," she begged. She wasn't near death but bleeding and hungry. |

I HANG MY COAT UP IN THE FIRST BAR THERE IS NO PEACE THAT I HAVE FOUND SO FAR THE LAUGHTER PENETRATES MY SILENCE AS DRUNKEN MEN FIND FLAWS IN SCIENCE
as the night carried on, charlie found the bar started to clear out pretty quickly. and with their absence came a disastrous mess in their wake. tables overturned, drinks spilled on every surface, and the floor. it would take seconds to clean up with a simple charm, but charlie disliked the idea he had just played host to the comings and goings of the most despicable wizards in knockturn alley, some even death eaters. a few of these death eaters were currently still left in the bar, huddled in a corner. they were regulars at yank's and always seem to be the last to leave. charlie sighed and rolled up his sleeves. he took out his wand and gave it a flick. the room began to reorient itself to tidiness. some rags from the bar began to soar through the air, cleaning every surface, and a mop from the cupboard flew out of its storage place like a broomstick and began mopping up the floor.
just then charlie heard some commotion outside. now what? he thought. probably that weirdo he threw out a while ago was starting fights with more bloaks in the alley. but then, strangely enough, he heard a girl's a voice. a young girl at that. charlie used his legilimens to penetrate the minds of everyone within a close radius, he could see the disgusting things that this man was thinking of outside his bar. charlie wasn't comfortable with the idea that a young girl was being attacked just outside of his bar. and on top of that, he was the one who had thrown the guy out in the first place. his wand was still firmly in his hand from tidying the bar, and he instantly dashed for the door. the mop fell over, the rags stopped cleaning, and all of the items floating through the air that were on their journey to be put away fell to the floor with a crash.
charlie opened the door and stepped outside. it was dark, the light from within yank's was the only thing lighting the street, but after a bit of wandering he could make out well enough the creep he had thrown out earlier, and a young doe-eyed blonde haired girl. she couldn't have been older than sixteen. charlie instantly came into the mind set of an auror, who he truly was. he was always playing the hero, and not for any reason other than he always stood up for what he thought was right, no matter this situation, and this one would be no exception. he saw the girl, fallen in the alley way, and the scraggly creep from before advancing on her, his wand at the ready. now that charlie was closer to them he could easily hear the thoughts of this man and it sickened him, drove him crazy with rage. expelliarmus! charlie growled aiming at the man. he had no patience for scum like this that preyed on young girls. the man's wand went flying out of his hand and rolled on the floor over to charlie. charlie picked the wand up at his feet and snapped it between his two hands. when there was a threat, he became a different person, he'd stopped at nothing until he was satisfied justice had been served. perhaps that was the quality that had made him such a savvy auror in america.
he picked the scraggly man up by the scruff of his neck and smashed him face first into the brick wall. the impact broke the man's nose, making him yell out in pain. shame, charlie was hoping he'd knock out a few teeth as well, but a broken nose was enough to inhibit the scumbag. he had almost completely forgotten that he was still in the company of the young girl and she was about to see some terrible things happen in front of her wide eyes, but charlie was blinded by rage and fury and sometimes got carried away with himself. magic was an expected reaction in the wizarding world, of course, but charlie had grown up on the muggle streets of brooklyn and sometimes he found that brute force was a better way to handle situations. the craftiest wizard couldn't handle himself next to the dirty physical fighting that charlie had spent his entire life knowing.
think you're a tough guy now?! charlie shouted in the man's ear. the man whimpered pleadingly to stop, but charlie smashed again. the man headfirst right into the brick wall. i asked you a question! charlie insisted. now the man was barely conscious, bleeding from his forehead, his nose, and his lip too. "no, no, i don't, i'm sorry" the man pleaded, barely audible. charlie threw him down to the ground in disgust. charlie despised the kind of sickos like this man. he'd have them all thrown in azkaban if he could have his way, but that was not the way of the law, he would stand trial first.
charlie composed himself, gaining control of his emotions, and looked down at the young girl. right, he had forgotten she had seen everything. he stood frozen, staring at her, suddenly feeling very guilty that he had not taken his beating session elsewhere so she wouldn't have to see it, but as happened often times, charlie became blinded by his own emotions.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] DANCING SLOWLY IN AN EMPTY ROOM The Words: 359 The Outfit: here The Notes length sucks...so sorry What had just happened? She couldn't help but let the questions in her mind run amok as she had let the scene unfold in front of her. Had she ever seen something as violent as this? No, but it was hard to see as she clamped her eyes shut and tried to calm herself down. "My god, you nearly killed him!" She whispered aloud in a worried tone while still trying to calm down. Thirteen deep breaths later and still no progress. Couldn't she at leas thank this man who had saved her? Olivia honestly had no idea if she could trust him.
Curling up to the wall further she tried to open her eyes and listened to see if there was anymore scene. Her breaths came out in a staggered pattern while staring at the sky for a moment. "Oh my god..." Olivia repeated three times in a tone so that only she could hear. She tried to concentrate on pulling her sweater closer as a gust of strong wind came but there was nothing that could make her stop shaking. Olivia had just been attacked. Had he tried to even...rape her? She didn't want to let the thought cross her mind but it seemed impossible at the time. That event had probably just scarred her for life.
"T-thank you," she managed to stutter out to her unknown protector as he looked at her with a look that equally matched her own stunned gaze. Olivia had no idea how to respond to something like this. Should she be sobbing more than she just had? There was dried blood on her cheeks from being cut and one wrist was swollen slightly. Her face felt dry from sobbing into the wall and nothing seemed to be right right now. Nothing what so ever.
Olivia scooted back into the board of wood behind her, trying to get away from all of this. She needed to find her school things, and still somehow thank her helper for sure. Was there anything she could do? How do you even thank someone for practically saving your life? |

I HANG MY COAT UP IN THE FIRST BAR THERE IS NO PEACE THAT I HAVE FOUND SO FAR THE LAUGHTER PENETRATES MY SILENCE AS DRUNKEN MEN FIND FLAWS IN SCIENCE charlie snapped out his daze when he heard her say "my god! you nearly killed him!". its a shame i didn't charlie thought to himself. with the sick things that man had been thinking charlie wished he had killed him. his legilimens could often be a curse in that sense, but he needed the skill so desperately as a means to seek his vengeful ends. charlie looked down at the doe eyed young blonde and realized what a monster he must have looked like to this innocent girl. she might even try and run from him next! but hopefully his caring nature would show through. he was protecting her, after all. he noticed that the girl had gone into a traumatized state now. charlie had seen it before on victims he had liberated from the clutches of dark wizards as an auror.
i'm sorry you hadda witness all-a that, miss, charlie said sadly. i shoulda taken it elsewhere. i'm sorry... but then she thanked him. charlie approached the young girl and bent down, squatting on his toes. my name is charlie, and i'm not going to hurt you, charlie said quickly. he realized approaching this traumatized girl could be absolutely terrifying for her, regardless of the fact that he had just saved her life. are you okay? what's your name? he asked. he gently reached out and lifted her chin to observe the cut on her cheek. charlie took his wand out of his back pocket and concentrated while slowly muttering an incantation to heal the wound. charlie's strength was definitely not in healing spells, so they required his full attention. dealing damage to others and defending against it was his specialty, but healing physical wounds was certainly more difficult for him.
luckily the cut was not very big and soon enough her skin mended together, seamlessly blending in with the rest of her snow white complexion. charlie stood up again and offered his hand to lift her back onto her feet as well. where are your parents? charlie asked hesitantly. he wasn't entirely sure if she was of the age where one had to be accompanied by their parents at all times, or if she was old enough to be on her own and just stumbled into the wrong alley by mistake.
are you... a frogwarts student? charlie asked her. he had made the mistake of mispronouncing hogwarts on purpose. an attempt to make her grin, if only the slightest, in this terrible situation. charlie had actually made the mistake of referring to it as frogwarts before, but he had since learned his lesson. now all he wanted to do was try and make this poor girl smile after she had just been attacked and then witnessed her attacker beaten to a pulp by yet another terrifying stranger. hopefully charlie had made himself just a little less terrifying. charlie was willing to personally escort this girl back to wherever she came from. it was late at night, he wouldn't let her go alone, even if she wanted to. charlie was extremely protective of people, even people he had just met, maybe that's what made him a good auror, but he had a soft spot for this poor girl. he had felt partly responsible for the attack on her life and innocence, because he was the one who threw that creep out on the streets in the first place and that killed him inside. he would make sure this girl would safely arrive wherever she needed to go no matter what. he would not be responsible for innocent people getting hurt.
