CELESTE TRISTA AURELIA
celeste was born a nameless child in a poorer section of abidjan; left on the doorstep of a run-down church with absolutely nothing, she was taken in and raised in poverty. the single priest living there was kind enough, but it was often that she had to resort to stealing or begging in order to feed herself, as the priest could barely take care of himself. it wasn't a very good life, and she always found herself wanting more. when she was seven, she tried to rob an affluent couple and was caught. fortunately, the couple could both do magic, and recognized her as a witch. a week later, the girl was brought back to france (much to the priest's relief) and they raised her as their own daughter.
they named her celeste and she took their last name, aurelia. it was soon apparent that celeste had an eidetic memory, which she had thought was normal until then. ambitious celeste began to help her father to further the family fortune (so she'd have more to inherit, of course) and her naturally lazy, if not incredibly scheming persona took form.
she attended beauxbatons when she came of age to go to school, and promptly became both a troublemaker and a star pupil. (she tended to be either hated or loved; usually hated, sometimes loved.) upon graduation, celeste traveled the world a bit, visiting the other magical schools and meeting various witches and wizards; eventually, however, she was drawn to hogwarts and the many mysteries surrounding the school. she was twenty-one when she first visited hogwarts, but was too young to apply for a job there. thus, while biding her time, celeste began to study even more archaic magic while traveling -- the power that came with knowledge attracted the woman.
the idea of being an animagus, in particular, was incredibly appealing, if only because of her personal ambition; occlumency and legilimency were interesting, but what use did she have for that? there were no secrets in her mind that she needed to conceal (except perhaps the first few years of her life), and forcefully prying into the secrets of others was simply 'uncool' (and merlin knew she was not going to become a werewolf or a vampire). upon choosing the form of a snowy owl (because if you want to do something, make it flashy), celeste worked for years to become an accomplished animagus. on her twenty-fifth 'birthday' -- being simply the day she was dropped off on the church's step, as she didn't know her true birthdate -- celeste did two things; she registered herself with the ministry of magic, then went to hogwarts to apply as the astronomy teacher.
upon being accepted for the job, she soon established herself as the 'crazy lady in the astronomy tower'. as unconventional as her teaching methods are, however, celeste takes a bit of pride in the fact that most of her students move on to being able to pass their O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s. since then, celeste has simply been a teacher.
in terms of 'good' traits, celeste is very independent and self-sufficient, along with being incredibly headstrong. her self-confidence levels are incredibly high; celeste doesn't doubt herself very much, if ever. celeste's surface emotions are very open, as she doesn't make a habit of hiding her opinions. a result of that would be her straight-forwardness. (some consider it incredible bluntness, but celeste prefers to call it 'wonderful honesty'.) celeste is also incredibly intelligent, even if her demeanor sometimes suggests otherwise. she is an observer; while she ignores and pretends not to notice things that don't interest her, celeste is always watching her surroundings and examining the people around her. being a fantastically friendly, affectionate person, it's not often that celeste isn't smiling -- even when her wit is meant to purposefully offend.
her not-so-good traits, however, are rather numerous. first and foremost would be her complete apathy toward anything and everything that doesn't interest her. she has absolutely no problem with hypothetical forces of 'good' and 'evil' blasting each other to bits of cosmic dust (and if there are innocent people caught in the crossfire, boo hoo) as long as she doesn't get affected personally. as a teacher at hogwarts, of course, it's her 'duty' to support the school in whatever crusades they go on, but ... well. let's just say celeste couldn't give any less of a damn. she's a good witch and a good (?) teacher, to be sure, but her personality has more than a few defects; another being her selfishness (and vanity). celeste's world revolves around her, and if your world doesn't orbit around the sun that is celeste she'll pretend that it does anyway and do what she want, regardless of anyone's protests (...except maybe the headmaster. even she has to listen to him). she absolutely thrives in awkward situations -- both in observing them and creating them, simply because it's amusing. (she will do pretty much anything for her own amusement.) celeste's habits of being very touchy-feely and, er, loose only serve to further that purpose.
not only that, however, but celeste is also very capricious (and more than a little bit inconsiderate). she does what she wants, when she wants to, however she decides to do it -- and if doing whatever she wants affects others in a negative way, she couldn't really care less. she is notoriously unreliable; celeste has a horrible habit of 'forgetting' to do boring things, such as read students' reports when they didn't include pictures. not only that, but she can be incredibly lazy and hypocritical at times; celeste may promise to do something and swear that she always keeps promises, then three seconds later be found snoozing on her couch. her moods are unpredictable and her pranks even moreso.
celeste values her freedom above all else -- her boggart, in fact, would be being chained and unable to move or make her own decisions, instead having to do whatever another person commands her to do. of course, right after her freedom comes herself, her amusement, her mirror, and herself again. in all honesty, though, celeste truly appreciates other intelligent people (even if, you know, she's always the one who's the most intelligentin her mind) as well as aesthetically pleasing things. what she doesn't enjoy are children, especially the crying ones, relationships, commitment, physical activity, and -- above all -- boredom. a bored celeste is an intensely irritated celeste, and an intensely irritated celeste is very dangerous celeste.
(from a pokemon war site.)
Bright sunlight beamed through the window, striking the woman's face with a vengeance. Raising a hand to shield her eyes, Sinclair groaned. Why the hell was the sun already so high? Her alarm clock should have gone off by now. Katrina's goinng to kill me, she thought, vaguely concerned. She hates it when we're late. Ugh, dealing with the moody nurse was going to be such a headache. Feeling unusually reluctant to get out of bed, the woman turned her face and pulled the blankets closer around her. She did not want to get up.
Speaking of headaches, her head was killing her. It was like an aggravated Sandslash decided to have a field day in her skull -- not to mention the fact that her stomach wasn't agreeing with the rest of her body. Sinclair found that odd -- as far as she knew, she just never got sick. Her pride refused to even acknowledge the possibility. With another groan and a few silent swears, Sinclair rolled over and buried her face in her pillow.
... Waaait a minute. The brunette took a deep breath. This wasn't her pillow. It smelled ... different. With a gasp, the woman pushed herself up and looked around, eyes wide. The blanket-that-was-not-her-blanket slid off, and the woman noticed, for the first time, something that should have been obvious from the beginning, if not for her raging headache and angry stomach.
She was naked.
"What the hell is go -- aaaah." She raised a hand to her forehead, the Sandslash once again attacking her cranium as she screwed her eyes shut against the sunlight. Suddenly, her symptoms began to make sense. Of course Sinclair wasn't sick, she was just hungover. Allowing herself a stream of swears, the woman examined her unfamiliar surroundings. It looked like she was in someone else's bedroom -- the implications of which she absolutely did not want to consider -- in someone else's bed -- maybe she had just borrowed the room temporarily? -- with no clothes on.Sinclair had no explanation for that.
Now that she had her bearings ... somewhat, a whole slew of questions presented themselves to her addled brain. One, where was she? Two, how did she get here, wherever she was? And three, where the fuck were her clothes? Sinclair decided her first plan of action was to find something to wear. The rest of her confusion could deal until she got clothesand maybe some painkillers for that godawful headache. Her eyes landed on what she assumed was a dresser. "Place to start," she grunted. The woman stumbled out of bed, disoriented, and nearly threw up as the room spun in circles around her.
Staggering toward the dresser, she began to roughly pull out every drawer within reach. Sinclair didn't give a damn that she was making a mess; she was sure that whoever owned this room would be more than willing to forgive her once she found her damn gun. Clothes flew everywhere, and she grabbed a pair of black boxers. Pulling them on with some difficulty, she figured that wearing something was better than being butt-naked. Next order of business was ... "Shirt," she spat. The woman reached out and grabbed the nearest top.
Before she could put it on, she heard the door open behind her. In an attempt to preserve what was left of her dignity, Sinclair pressed the Staryu Wars t-shirt to her chest and spun around. If only she had found that gun.
"Who's there?" she demanded.
