okay, here's a general rule as to what to expect in the astronomy tower: uh, it's a mess -- and very dangerous. don't go in here if you value your life. |D (really, though, imagine that the tower is the home of a demonic packrat from hell and you'll get an idea of what it looks like.)
as for her homework, pm celeste (don't post here!) if you want to take up any of these assignments; I'll edit you in, and if you're signing up for a partner assignment I'll pm you both once you can get going. good luck, and have fun! ASSIGNMENT oo1: chart the phases of the moonthis is an independent activity, and up to three people can do this. create a thread in the astronomy tower and, each day for a week (seven days), write a short paragraph describing one phase of the moon (in order!).
on day one, you might describe your character examining and writing a new moon. then, on the second day, describe a waxing crescent. then first quarter, then waxing gibbous, etc. there are eight phases of the moon, so you can describe one a day.
remember, though -- give it some effort, but you don't have to go past a good-sized paragraph if you don't want to. the time limit is two weeks, so you can make up any phases you missed. (and the moon phases obviously aren't in real time.) pm celeste once you've finished the thread.
requirements: seven posts to finish; maximum is one post a day (unless you're dead set on procrastination and post up seven posts in a day. really, though?). you have two weeks, and you only have to chart seven phases (in order). posts don't have to be five hundred words.
reward: from five to fifteen points. no credit for incomplete assignments. five is if you've done seven phases and there's minimal effort. fifteen is if you've done a great job and you simply blew celeste away with the paper.
participants: 0/3. ASSIGNMENT oo2: stargazingas simple as it sounds. just thread out the finding of the constellations ... in a thread, obviously. the thread can be done anywhere, but just make sure there's a good view of the stars. this is done in pairs, and two pairs are able to participate. (note: the ideal times for seeing these constellations are from nine to ten p.m., so that should be the time in your thread).
hogwarts is in the northern hemisphere, and the current 'season' is autumn. there are five constellations that are visible all throughout the year, and an additional eleven to be seen in this season. for the sake of length and simplicity, the only ones you are required to find are the five that are present all year long. from the eleven possible in autumn, choose five and find those.
however, you do have to name all sixteen constellations in the sky. once done, simply pm celeste with the list of names of the constellations (mark the ones that were found in the thread) and a link to your thread.
requirements: the word requirement is not in effect in this thread, but maybe get some bonding done while gazing up at the night sky? (make friends, make enemies, whatever; but the two of you are going to be alone for a while.) try to make it at least a page and a half, and please don't find more than one constellation per post. not cool.
reward: from five to twenty points. no credit for incomplete assignments. five is, again, minimal effort (I'm looking to see at least a page and a half -- again, don't find all of the constellations in your first post!). ten is if you have a decent thread and sent me the constellations. fifteen is if it's good and correct, and twenty if you've found all sixteen constellations in your thread and I go 'WOAH A++++' (or O++++ as the case may be).
participants: team one; abigail murray, christoph rivers (2/2). team two; sigurd asgaard, linus benoit (2/2). ASSIGNMENT oo3: find the little toy sailboatso, celeste has recently enchanted a rubber duckie to quack and talk by itself. unfortunately, it's getting a little lonely without a little tootin' toy sailboat! celeste knows she has one somewhere in the tower, but she can't find it ... because her tower is a complete and utter bio-hazardous zone mess. she can't be bothered to find it herself, so she's 'hired' a group of three students to go and find it for her.
just a warning -- some books bite, some telescopes punch, and some quills tend to stab you when your back is turned.
post a thread in the astronomy tower and thread out looking for the toy sailboat. I'll post with cel if you find it! oh, and one more thing -- in this thread, I may jump in and say 'the bookshelf is falling!' or 'the goldfish bowl is now attempting to place itself on your head!' or some such thing. (it's definitely preferred if you make up your own, creative obstacles, though! extra credit for you.)
celeste's astronomy tower is extremely dangerous when she's away but almost perfectly obedient when she's present. be very careful; wounds can be fixed with magic, but just try not to lose any eyeballs or internal organs. pm celeste once you've found the sailboat.
requirements: I'd like to see at least two pages in this one; not all posts have to be five hundred words, and there's going to be three people (with me popping in occasionally).
reward: ten points for braving the dangers of her tower -- more points, up to ten more, will be awarded depending on how interesting/amusing/unique/DANGEROUS the thread is.
participants: 0/3.
