It was the night of the masquerade
ball, and the moonlight filtered through
the high arched window of Abigail's
dormroom, illuminating her pale skin
and hair. Her heart was beating fast
already as she tightened the strap on
her black high heel and stood from her
bed to look into the mirror that hung on
the wall.
She wore a black ruffled dress that fell
right above the knee, matching black, blue,
and gold heels, and her mothers old pale
blue formal robes draped over her shoulders.
She had changed her hair strawberry blonde
for the occasion, and it cascaded down her
slim back in pale curls. She smiled into the
mirror at her reflection and placed the mask
on her fair face. It was the same blue as her
robes and was graced with shimmering gold
and black swirls and feathers. She would be
hard to recognize between the light hair and mask.
She left Ravenclaw tower casually with a group
of girls and broke away from them as she
neared the great hall, not wanting her
housemates to give her away. It was time to find
Christoph- Let the games begin.
A gasp escaped Abigail as she entered into the
Great hall. It had been transformed, sporting
elegant feathers and colors, into a simply
breathtaking ballroom. There were only about
half the people that would show up in the room
at the moment- Abbie had come early to find
Winter before dinner. It was a game they had
agreed to play, and the first one to find the other
would win. Her eyes scanned the room for
Christoph's tall figure, heart beating.
Would he like her dress? It wasn't as fancy as
some of the girls ball gowns, but, not knowing
what to expect, she had not wanted to feel too
overdressed. Besides, her shimmering robes,
heels and mask would make up for it,
she assured herself.
Abigail looked around the room again and
recognized many of the people around her
underneath their masks. She had gone all
out for the theme, adjusting her height, hair,
even slightly adjusting her face shape and
eye color until she found Chris. Her mothers
locket was the only giveaway, but she had
chosen to leave it and hope no one
recognized the charm.
