SILESTA ROSE ASHWORTH
Silesta was born on a snowy day in December. She is the first and only child of the Ashworth family. Her father is a lawyer, and mother a teacher, both very passionate about their jobs and of course, raising Silesta. The family was very well off from the beginning, and her parents had great ambitions for Silesta, and at a very young age, they had taught everything that she could possibly know.
Ever since a young age, Silesta had been taking part in all sorts of muggle sports; soccer, tennis, swimming... everything, and she loved it. She was a very well-rounded kid, with great academic grades and plays lots of sports on the side. She had never really known that there was a wizarding world in existence; all that really mattered was her friends and family. That is, until she started displaying acts of magic that was completely unexpected.
Then, like any other wizard/witch, Silesta's acceptance letter came. To her parents, that couldn't possibly be true. A magical world that muggles don't know about? Her dad finds everything extremely absurd, until someone actually came and showed the Ashworth family what the wizarding world was all about. Silesta was extremely eager to begin; a whole window of possibilities was opened. Her parents weren't too pleased about the letter, or this new found world. Although they found it to be quite extraordinary to have a whole world unknown to muggles, it was quite.. odd. However, they allowed for Silesta to go to the school.
Hogwarts was like an adventure for the girl. She had made tons of friends and lived life like she would have otherwise not thought to be possible. Charms, transfiguration, potions... although everything was new to her, she fell in love with the world of magic, and excelled in several subjects besides. She loves Quidditch, although she refuses to get on the broom. She much rather watch and cheer her teammates on. Wizard Chess is also another one of her favorite things to do, as well as the various shops that can be found in Hogsmeade. But even though she lives in the Wizarding world now, she hasn't abandoned her muggle side of life. She still plays sports and continued to learn about muggle math and sciences, physics, algebra, all sorts of stuff, with her father. She finds the things deeply fascinating (even though, it's probably pretty useless now that she's got magic), and quite likes it. Sometimes during the school year you would even find her reading muggle novels and textbooks.
Silesta is now in her sixth year, and started making plans for after graduation, as well as focusing more on her studies.
overview. The three adjectives that most describe Silesta are quirky, intelligent, and sweet. She has the quirks that make her stand out from the rest of her housemates, such as her muggleborn heritage, her bubbly personality, and her love for life. Silesta is a very intelligent individual, and she values knowledge, and learning. She has a very curious mind; she enjoys learning through books, but she really prefers to learn through experimentation. Forgetful, laid-back, and disorganized, Silesta isn’t the best of students, but with above average grades, there’s nothing she could really complain about. On top of that, she has a cheery disposition; but while that makes her likable by most of her peers, it could make her dislikable by some as well.
vivacious. to say that Silesta is a boring or dispirited person would be absolutely wrong. Silesta is a very lively girl, she loves to make the best of everything, and she loves to live life at the fullest. She’s very animated, bubbly, cheerful, and usually full of life.
opinionated. Silesta’s parents influenced her to have her own set of opinions. She has a very clear definition of what is right, and what is wrong, and has a very clear set of values and beliefs. Silesta won’t hesitate to stand up for what she believes in, and she won’t give a second thought before trying to prove you wrong.
strong-willed. determination is also another one of Silesta’s qualities. Once she has her heart set on doing something, she’s going to fulfill it, no matter what the cost is. However, being strong-willed also means Silesta can be quite stubborn when the occasion calls for it, and that could play to her disadvantage at times – she wouldn’t know when to back off.
gullible. Silesta is the kind of person to look up whenever somebody else says “oh look, gullible is written on the ceiling!” She tends to fall for the odd pranks and jokes. She is, by no means, ignorant. She’s just very unsuspecting most of the time.
unorganized. Unorganized… but in an organized sort of fashion. It is like Silesta to lose the occasional homework under her bed, or somewhere in the depth of her trunk. Sometimes she loses books, or quills, or sometimes even clothes. She likes to organize her things in some sort of a ‘clutter’, that nobody is ever able to make sense of, with the exception for her.
forgetful. While being extremely intelligent, Silesta is also quite forgetful. It isn’t really her fault; it was just, well, she doesn’t write things down too often, and sometimes she’d forget the most important ingredient in a potion, or she’d forget that there was supposed to be an exam today. Silesta is really the type of person to ‘go with the flow’. Who remembers things, anyways?
romantic. Between listening to love songs, reading romance stories, and daydreaming about her prince charming (and/or pretending that she’s a princess!), it is safe to say that Silesta is a hopeless romantic. She’s very easily swept off her feet, and while she won’t let any guy cause her to act like an idiot, the idea of true love is very real to her.
rational. Silesta values logic, reasoning, and intelligence. Naturally, being rational is one of her qualities. At the time of a crisis, the first thing she’d do is to stop and think. Her rationality helped her in the past with her grades, her rational thinking helped her with taking exams, even when she forgets some of the answers, and she usually ends up pulling through.
open. Silesta’s mind is like an open book; one might say she’s simply too trusting, but Silesta would say that she has absolutely nothing to hide. She doesn’t really keep secrets, because she feels that she doesn’t really have secrets to keep, and when it comes to her feelings, it’s not like she has a wall built around her heart or anything. Ask her a question about her personal life, and more often than not, Silesta will answer truthfully and without hesistation.
analytical. This trait makes Silesta particularly good in the subject of literature. She likes to look into the actions and words of other people, and try to analyze what they’re thinking, or feeling. Sometimes she may over read things, but that’s how her mind works.
Ariella wasn’t the only one surprised; she watched as Corny jumped and tied the parchment to the owl. The owl took off, but instead of going outside, the owl swooped over Corny and over her head, circling once before dropping the piece of parchment. She peered up, gazing at the owl, and the owl dropped his note on her head, and then fell to her right foot. She didn’t look down – but instead, looked at her best friend. So it was him. All this time. She’d teased about him in the past, and told about him of the little notes and letters and gifts; he knew. But she’d never thought it’d actually be him, simply because the notes were so romantic and… he was just so shy. Not that, she ever had a problem with that – it was just the fact that Corny was the last person she would have imagined to be her secret admirer. She wasn’t sure how to react.
Ella was feeling everything, all at once. The shock, the surprise… the delight, to finally figure out who the letter writer was… the confusion, but then, lurking in the back of her heart, was the feeling of – this might be too strong of a word – betrayal. Why hadn’t he told her? He could, and she would’ve been totally okay with it! Everyone fears rejection, but how could he think that she would ever reject him? She couldn’t help but be a little bit hurt at the fact that he kept his secret so well from her; or maybe it was that she felt sad because she didn’t know him well enough to know it was him all along. She wasn’t sure what to feel. Ariella studied him, her composure calm, ignoring the plethora of emotions in her heart. His hands trembled, and he honestly, looked terrified out of his mind. He looked nervous… but why? And how long did he expect for this to still be kept a secret from her? Her eyes softened once she realized that it was her presence that made him nervous. She hadn’t intended on walking in on him and reading the letter, and it was an accident – but she did realize that standing here, motionless, studying him was probably making him nervous. Watching him, Ariella wanted nothing more than to give him a hug, so that he would stop trembling and just… be himself again.
The Gryffindor girl bent down and picked up the parchment, unrolled it, stood up, and read it again. The very same words that she’d read a moment ago danced off the page. Was this a dream; that she finally found her mysterious letter writer? Ariella remained motionless, watching Corny struggle for words, but not saying anything to reassure him. He could’ve just told her. She didn’t quite understand why he’d go through all the trouble to tell him that he loved her. That made no sense – but she suspected that it was because he had no idea she loved him back. She’d loved him since they met; the moment her hand brushed his when she gave him back his books. Did he really think that the reason she kept hanging around him, being around him – was because she only wanted him to be her best friend? To her, he’s more than that. He had always been more than that.
Even if the letter writer was a different guy, and not Corny – she’d still be in love with him, and not the letter writer. The letters were sweet, yes. They gave her room to imagine who it could be, but in the end, she still knew that her imagination was a part of a fantasy, and the person she loved the most was still her best friend. Even all the times she’d dated the other guys… Ella was still very clear on who she truly loved. She dated other guys because unlike Corny, they came up to her and asked her out; she simply gave them a chance. Plus, she was a teenage girl, and what girl doesn’t like to feel special with a guy that adored her? but at the end of the day, she still came back to Corny for comfort and love and moral support. He was the only one she’s truly comfortable with, and the only one she truly wanted to be with.
"I want to love you in a special way!" he said. Ella blinked at him, but flinched when the cages crashed behind him. “you could’ve just told me,” she said simply. She hadn’t meant for her voice to sound so hurt, or for her voice to catch, but it did. She took a step forward, her gaze locked with his.
and she smiled.
“I’ve loved you all this time.” she said, growing even surer of the fact as she said it. That was when all the hurt started to go away – because… that doesn’t matter. She was sure he had some reason for writing to her instead of telling her straight out. And plus… he loved her. that was the only thing she wanted, and the only thing she needed.
