An Unexpected Encounter The lessons had just ended for the day, and yet Zara had no plans to head back down to the Great Hall for dinner. Usually, she’d be the first one down with her friends, ready to enjoy the feast after a tiring day of studying and daydreaming. But instead, that day, she was up at the girls’ lavatory on the third floor, staring at her own reflection idly. Usually, she’d never be seen anywhere looking so bored and miserable. It was different that day. It was her mother’s birthday. If her mother had been alive, she’d have turned forty-three. And yet, she’d have looked as young as she was twenty years ago, Zara was sure. Elizabeth Girard was a beauty, and her mother’s beautiful, calm features never really left Zara’s mind. Whenever she was missing her mother or an important date such as that day came around, she’d make sure to surround herself with her friends. They’d distract her, they’d make her feel better even if they never knew the reason behind her moodiness. But that day, Zara had miraculously decided to be alone just for a while. She knew she’d be feeling lonely and vulnerable, and yet she had decided that she needed to be by herself for just a while, to collect her thoughts, to just think about her mother for some time before heading back to her dorm and calling it a day. And so she stood still like a cold statue before the mirror, her mind miles away. Back at Scotland, back at home, where her mother would probably have been if only she hadn’t met her untimely demise.

I WANNA LIVE IN D A R K N E S S DON'T WANNA BE SPUN AROUND
adrienne had left supper early in the great hall and proceeded up to the third floor girl's lavoratories to... well... relieve herself. she entered a stall and to spare "too much information" did just that. those damn pumpkin pasties! they just went right through you! as adrienne was finishing up she heard another presence enter the loo. the strange thing was, though, they didn't enter a stall or turn on the water or anything. was some creepy pervert lurking around? or worse, maybe it was peeves the poltergeist who had come to trash the place and adrienne was unlucky enough to be there. she'd just have to hex the bloody ghost into oblivion. she flushed the toilet and opened the stall door. but she didn't find the ghost that she expected.
it was zara girard standing at the sinks, gazing at her own reflection in the mirror. adrienne knew she was a gryffindor, and knew that she had often gotten in the way of adrienne's bullying of other gryffindors. she stood up for herself certainly, and that meant she would provide her with more than sufficient entertainment. fancy meeting you here, girard, adrienne said coolly as she exited the stall and slammed the door shut behind her. she waltzed over to the sink next to zara and began washing her hands. just catching up on your daily admiration of your own reflection? she said with a snicker. nothing better to do than stare at yourself all day in the mirror? adrienne could not resist picking on her. especially since she wasn't surrounded by her loyal band of fellow gryffindorks.
adrienne was far more used to being alone. she had grown accustomed to it. she did have a few close friends, and of course there was her band of lackies, but she enjoyed the quiet stillness of her solitude, and zara seemed more vulnerable not having her close friends at hand. adrienne was quick to spot this weakness and decided to take advantage of this. she wasn't planning on hexing the girl into oblivion, but let's face it. adrienne didn't have too many run-ins with other students she insulted that didn't end that way, and she didn't expect zara to just take it either. those gryffindors were bold, no doubt about it, and they always protected their damn pride. adrienne was ready, regardless of the outcome of this encounter.

An Unexpected Encounter
Zara was still lost deep in her thoughts when she heard a voice. Which kind if surprised her. Not many people came to this particular lavatory after dinner, since most of them would've retired to their respective Common Rooms. So it was indeed a shock to Zara to hear someone. She didn't need to bother turning around to see who it was, she could see the girl clearly in the mirror. Adrienne Hart.
She had to make a face. She hated that girl. Adrienne was someone who bullied almost anyone and everyone, and Zara hated that. Honestly, couldn't she have gone to some other lavatory? Why pick this one? When Zara was alone, and miserable?
"fancy meeting you here, girard. just catching up on your daily admiration of your own reflection? nothing better to do than stare at yourself all day in the mirror?" Zara snorted. She might be alone and miserable, but that never meant she'd shut up and listen to whatever Adrienne was throwing at her. "Oh please, Hart. Like I need to look at the mirror to know how I look. I get compliments on how I look all the time," she smirked, now turning to face the girl. Yes, what she said was very arrogant and something that she wouldn't really say, but this was Adrienne she was talking to. She needn't care what Adrienne would think of her.
"Fancy seeing you here! Merlin, you've really got an appetite, huh? To have stayed in that stall for such a long time. Stress-eating that no boy is going to ask you out to the ball?" she asked her innocently. By then, she was fighting to push the thoughts of her mother aside already. She just needed to get out of there, and to her dorm. Because being in the same room as Adrienne never really bode well, from her past experiences. It usually ended in a screamfest or a duel, leading to detention. And she wasn't planning to get detention right then.
"Why don't you go to the lavatory on the second-floor instead? The one with Moaning Myrtle? The both of you would make good companions. Sad and lonely," she said as the smirk grew on her face. Merlin, she could be really mean. But she had to defend herself, and her close friends weren't even there with her. It made her all the more vulnerable.
ooc: gosh, sorry if Zara is being too mean :|

I WANNA LIVE IN D A R K N E S S DON'T WANNA BE SPUN AROUND
adrienne's eyes widened. she was rather surprised at zara's first response. how slytherin-like! adrienne was almost proud. she couldn't believe a girl like zara was capable of sounding s conceited, but alas some people were just full of surprises. adrienne snatched her wand up out of her robes. it almost appeared as though she might be preparing for a duel, but instead of appearing threatening she just began to twirl it between her fingers as she often did, walking back and forth around zara. adrienne wanted to make clear that zara wasn't going anywhere if adrienne didn't want her to. at least not without a fight. but adrienne wasn't necessarily in the dueling mood if she didn't need to be.
she snickered at zara's next comment. you're right, an appetite i do have. but you on the other hand... its a shame you have to starve yourself to keep as flattering a figure as mine
[/color] she retorted tapping her belly. zara brought up a very relevant point though about the ball. adrienne had been so caught up in all of her recent detention appointments she had practically forgotten about the masquerade. who was she going to take? contrary to most girls, adrienne wasn't worried about anyone asking her, because she usually did the asking herself... well, if you could even call it asking. usually she would just demand the presence of a tall good looking half brained slytherin nit-wit who would just look nice on her arm. and who's taking your scrawny behind to the ball zara? crossing your fingers its the brooding dreamy sirius black? she asked mocking the appearance of a love struck airhead. i saw you two in care of magical creatures, you could cut the tension with a slicing charm. what's the matter? trouble in paradise? she teased. she actually had no real insight into zara and sirius' relationship. there was definitely something going on there, but, in fact, she knew next to nothing about it. she was aiming for a long shot but hoped to pluck the right chords. zara seemed to be in a sensitive state already for whatever reason that adrienne was unaware of. ouch, kitty's got claws! she snickered. what kind of hungarian horntail crawled up your arse and died? zara was on fire tonight. just as mean as any slytherin might be! adrienne didn't know whether to be offended or pleased with her behavior. all she knew was that her mere presence was getting under zara's skin in some way, shape, or form, and that was always adrienne's goal. mission accomplished. if i'm the one who's so sad and lonely, what are you doing here all by your lonesome she asked using her wand to flick a piece of hair off zara's shoulder. adrienne was playing with fire and she knew it. i seem to be the only one in the room actually using the loo for what it's actually used for... but you on the other hand...? adrienne loved to pry, loved to question. especially when she had no place to do so. zara was unpredictable at the moment. she could brush her off or full out attack her. the unexpected outcome of this encounter was one that made adrienne excited. a good duel or argument always got her blood boiling. [/blockquote] OOC: omg no! i love her sassy side haha[/blockquote]

An Unexpected Encounter
Zara only smirked smugly when she saw the reaction Adrienne was giving to her comments. Hah, she wasn't expecting that now, was she? Well, that was what she will get for poking Zara at the wrong moment. A very wrong moment. Zara watched on as Adrienne started circling her, twirling her wand, and Zara's hand slowly slipped into her pocket to wrap her fingers around the wooden stick. In case Adrienne decided to have a change of thoughts and strike her with a curse unexpectedly...
But it never came. She only kept throwing more and more snide comments Zara's way. "you're right, an appetite i do have. but you on the other hand... its a shame you have to starve yourself to keep as flattering a figure as mine." Zara snorted. "Flattering figure? Wow, there must be a terrible lack of mirrors back in your dorm to actually lead your mind to think such delusional thoughts."
Zara knew Adrienne had a good figure. She was a Quididitch Captain, for Merlin's sake. Years of training has given her a good figure. But Zara wouldn't admit it even if it was the last thing she had to do to save herself. Besides, Adrienne had gotten her facts wrong. Zara was an absolute glutton. She had to thank her mother for the fast metabolism she had inherited from her. If not, for the amount she ate, Zara would've blown up like a hot-air balloon long, long ago.
Zara tried not to wince when Adrienne brought Sirius into the conversation. Was it that obvious, the fight between them? Oh well, Adrienne loved poking her nose into everyone's business just to laugh at their misery. Why should Zara be surprised that she knew? "Who I bring to the ball is none of your concern, Hart. Boys are falling at my feet to bring me. I suggest you better ask Filch, in case none of the boys want to go with you," she said. She was lying of course, but anything to hurt her enemy's pride. Adrienne might be a mean freak who hated everyone, but that never stopped the Hogwarts boys from staring at her. Something that, though Zara hated to admit, annoyed her.
"You don't set the rules for the lavatories, Hart. I can do whatever I want, with whoever I want, wherever I want. You should stop poking your nose into people's business before you get it smashed. I'd be more than happy to assist in that matter," she said, a sickly sweet smile pasted across her face as she crossed her arms. "Now get out of my way. Unlike you, I have friends who might be worried that I haven't returned to the dorm."
Zara was never usually this...bitchy. Yes, she could be mean when it came to standing up to people like Adrienne, but she never threw insults after insults like this without getting angry. When she does get angry...well, that was a completely different issue. She was guessing that since she was having such a terrible time with Sirius (which was slowly starting to become alright, much to her relief), and missing her mother, her mood was just bad. And trust Adrienne to jump right in and try to make it worse.
ooc: baha, great!

I WANNA LIVE IN D A R K N E S S DON'T WANNA BE SPUN AROUND
adrienne spotted the slightest wince at the mention of sirius' name. zara's next comment, avoiding her accusation about sirius, sealed the deal enough for adrienne to decide it was true and to start prying even more. avoiding the subject girard? ooo i just knew it! adrienne exclaimed clasping her hands together at her chest like a giddy girl. really, i should tell him how torn up you are over the whole thing, she said suddenly getting serious, or at least, adrienne's phony version of appearing serious. yes, i think i'll just have to get some gryffindork to tell sirius--because let's face it, no one's believing me-- that you've just been weeping for days in the girls' lavoratories praying he ask you to the ball! she couldn't resist chuckling. in reality adrienne didn't have the time or interest to actually carry out any of these threats she was making. gryffindors were pathetic enough on their own as it is, but this was just too delicious. she simply had to taunt zara with it, even if she would never really tell anyone anything at all.
now zara was trying to make a speedy exit, but adrienne just hadn't had enough fun yet. adrienne situated herself between zara and the exit. she had never seen zara so riled up. she couldn't just let her storm away without a fight. not when zara was the one shooting threats at her for a change. is that a threat girard? she asked, waving her wand around dangerously. please, show me how you're going to break my meddling nose, i'd love to see. adrienne wasn't too sure whether zara might engage in a duel or just brush her off. or maybe she might actually just try and punch her in the nose. either way, adrienne had seen her fair share of physical fights growing up with two older brothers. she didn't really take zara for that kind of girl, but who knew! she was a fire cracker tonight. something, or things, had really irked this girl today, and adrienne was just getting on her last nerve, as she often did.
i don't think so. you can't just tell me to get out of your way and expect me to oblige can you? adrienne shot back. she was no longer light-hearted and teasing. now she meant business. if this was going to turn into a fight she had to have her game face on. as much as she loved to tease when it came down to the crunch she would be as cruel and as ruthless as ever. her jab at friends made a small smile curl on adrienne's lips. of course, everyone always went for the lack of friends or lack of lovers card. adrienne was a loner by definition, but when would people realize she just hated everyone quite literally. just like christoph, zara saw this as a weakness to poke fun at, but to adrienne the opposite couldn't have been more true. unlike the rest of the sane world adrienne saw having many friends as a weakness of character rather than a strength. they were bothersome, and the only good people to have around were the ones who did things for you. oh right, sorry that's right. MY mistake... you don't know how to fight your own battles. yes, run along and find your friends to protect you zara. at least if its you and a handful of them i might actually have a fair fight for once she sneered maliciously. adrienne was really asking for it now, but zara was unpredictable. well, sweetheart, i sure hope they're not holding their breath...

An Unexpected Encounter
Zara had to grit her teeth hard to control her anger when Adrienne began taunting her about Sirius and the obvious fight between them. yes, i think i'll just have to get some gryffindork to tell sirius--because let's face it, no one's believing me-- that you've just been weeping for days in the girls' lavoratories praying he ask you to the ball! Zara rolled her eyes. "You mad, Hart? Someone dropped a Bludger on your head during Quidditch practice? Because you're talking gibberish - more than usual - right now. Do I look like I will go to him, begging him to bring me to the ball? He will do that by himself. Because believe it or not, I'm not one of the girls who only worry about relationships. I'm surprised you don't know that already, given how much you pay attention to my life," she smirked.
It was pathetic how Adrienne, and some others around the school who didn't know her, thought she was overly-concerned with her love-life. She could be miserable, yes, but Merlin it was insulting when they thought she cried over it all the time. The last thing Zara would do is to let someone see her cry, let alone for relationship problems. That was just...immature.
Zara pretended to inspect her nail intently when Adrienne challenged her to show her just what she'd do to her nose. "Careful what you ask for, Hart. I don't need my wand for such petty acts, I actually can be strong when the receiving end of the punch is someone like you." But Zara wasn't planning to really punch her, though. No, her anger level have not reached its peak. Yet. Besides, whenever violent acts occured, it always involved her wand. Why get her hand dirty when she has a wand, really?
oh right, sorry that's right. MY mistake... you don't know how to fight your own battles. yes, run along and find your friends to protect you zara. at least if its you and a handful of them i might actually have a fair fight for once. Zara heard her sneer, and gripped her wand, drawing it within the blink of an eye, pointing it right at Adrienne. That was it. The girl was playing with fire now. Zara was already have extreme mood swings thanks to missing her mother and thinking about Sirius, and now the Slytherin snake had topped it off with taunting her, implying that she was defenseless without her friends. She was vulnerable, felt a little insecure, yes. But she hated it when someone thought that 'she couldn't fight her own battle'. Especially someone like Adrienne. It made her blood boil.
"You want to see how I fight my own battle, Hart? Haven't you seen enough? You really want to end up in the hospital wing, don't you? Fine by me," she hissed, not moving even an inch. Zara wasn't going to attack her till she drew her own wand out. This was going to be a 'fair fight'. A rutheless one, at that.
