Zara was surprised when Sirius' hand found hers, and the comfort that that contact alone gave her was overwhelming. She turned to give him a smile, to ensure him that she was fine. It felt good to know that he cared. It felt good to let her hand rest in his. So she didn't make the effort to pull her hand away even after she was past her 'mournful moment'. Instead, she let her hand stay in his, continuing to listen to what he was saying.
She saw the hesitation in his eyes before he began talking, and wondered why. But as soon as he was done, she understood why. She had only known that he had been very different, and that he didn't really see eye-to-eye with his cousins. But she never knew it wa that bad. Bad enough for him to have run away, for his name to be blasted off.
"Sirius, that's horrible!" she gasped, her hand gripping his tighter. "How could they do this to you? You...you are their son..." she wondered out loud, shocked at what a parent could do. When the initial shock had subsided, she looked at him, smiling. "You know, it's their loss that they let someone like you go. One ounce of normality, of goodness, in your family, and they chase you away. They don't deserve you," she told him, meaning every word she said.

Sirius smiled wryly at the shock in Zara's voice; the fact that she was horrified at his parents behavior only made him like her more, made him appreciate her goodness more. He smiled genuinely when she told him that he was their loss, that he was good, normal... that she still cared. Her hand was warm and comforting in his, reminding her that no matter what was in his family that she still liked him for who he was; for Sirius Black.
He looked in her eyes and saw all the things he loved about her at once; Humor, Kindness, acceptance, modesty, goodness, beauty, love... Zara was the only person aside from his close knit group of friends that he talked so freely to. He smiled back at her, wishing he could sit here and talk to her forever. And then Sirius, his heart pounding, without giving it much thought or time to hesitate, kissed her.

Zara was surprised at the look Sirius was giving her. It was as if he had been expecting her to run away hearing his story, but was surprised to see her comforting him instead. She almost chuckled. She knew someone's family would never define that individual. Besides, she had spent the past 5 five years watching Sirius taunt Slytherins and stand up for his friends (though he did bully other innocent students once in a while). It was obvious that he was nothing like his cousins or other family members.
And then she realised Sirius was looking at her intently, and for a long, long time. So long, that Zara became a little self-conscious, wondering if she had something on her face. But she realised she was wrong Sirius suddenly leaned forward and pressed his lips to hers.
Of course, Zara had kissed before. She had dated, she had snogged. But this one kiss seemed to put the others to shame. In her shock, she didn't respond for a couple of seconds. However, as soon as she realised that fact that Sirius Black was kissing her, she started kissing back, her hand never leaving his. She could feel her cheeks coloring, her heart pounding, and soon enough, she broke away from the kiss in desperate need of air.
She was still looking flushed, but a happy smile was present on her face. "That was....bloody awesome," she said in a small voice, her smile turning into a small grin.

Sirius had flirted, kissed, snogged, but he had never felt quite this way; As bad as it sounded he had never been looking for a relationship before, he had never cared for anyone the way he cared for the girl who's soft lips were pressed against his now. Sirius had never realized just how much he liked Zara until that moment.
He smiled happily at the joyful smile on Zara's Beautiful face that mirrored his, and then his smile broadened into a grin as she spoke in a more timid version of her usual tone, "That was... Bloody awesome", and Sirius laughed happily ; he couldn't agree more. "You know, you're quite the impressive kisser ms. Zara!" he teased her lightly, grinning happily as always when around her.
The sun was getting close to setting, it's light touching the peaks of the mountains, and the two were expected back at Hogwarts very soon. Sirius and Zara walked back through the village, hand in hand, talking and laughing and joking. He felt happier than he had for a long time, and as they approached the castle there was nothing on his mind than Zara Girard.
